One person, one box, one open project.
Hestia is a concept console-style PC for open-source PS5 emulation. Its software, Hestia OS, combines the current emulators and picks the one that works best for each game. It's designed and built by a solo indie developer in Split, Croatia.
Who's behind it
I'm Petar Penović, an independent game developer from Split. I make games on my own, and I studied computer science. Hestia started as a side project: I wanted a small, quiet box that sits under a TV, boots into a console-style interface, and keeps getting better as the emulator improves.
What Hestia is
Hestia One is a small-form-factor PC (116 × 300 × 405 mm, about 14 litres) with a Ryzen CPU and Radeon graphics, the same hardware families as the PS5. It runs Hestia OS, a Linux-based launcher made for a TV and a controller. It bundles KytyPS5, SharpEmu and AnyPS5 native ports, updates them every night and starts each game in whichever runs it best.
The name comes from Hestia, the Greek goddess of the hearth and the home. The amber light seam on the front is the hearth fire.
Where the project is today
Hestia is a concept. The renders, the 3D tour and the Hestia OS mockup show the design. Prices and specs are estimates. Reservations are free and help me judge whether there's enough interest to build a first batch.
PS5 emulation is still early. Each emulator runs some games, and picking the best one per game helps, but crashes are common and big titles don't run well yet. I'd rather say that plainly than promise something the software can't do.
What Hestia will never do
- Ship or link to console firmware, BIOS files, keys or games. You use games you own and dumped yourself.
- Pretend to be connected to Sony. Hestia isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
- Lock the hardware. It's a standard PC, so you can install Windows, run Steam or swap any part.
The emulators
KytyPS5, SharpEmu and AnyPS5 are independent open-source projects with their own developers. Hestia OS builds on their work but isn't part of any of them. If you like what they do, support them directly.
